BLOG 17 (IF IT'S MY TIME)
It was (4) years ago today that my airline flight from Cedar Rapids IA to Mesa AZ went through some major turbulence on our descent in toward Mesa. The plane started to shake and then it got much worse and when I looked out at the wing it was flapping like a bird's wing. At that point I looked around and people were starting to Panic. Flashback: I had posted online when I booked my flight in February that I "thought something would happen with one of my flights". I had gone back to Dubuque IA for the Julien Dubuque Film Festival. The trip allowed me to learn some more about the Film Industry after going to the American Film Festival in Santa Monica prior, but more importantly I was also able to spend time with my Grandmother at her nursing home (she was almost 90 years old at the time). When I first went to her nursing home a gentlemen stopped me in the hallway and said "Oh you're going to see your Grandmother, that's wonderful, no one ever comes to see me". I ended up spending almost all of my time back there in Dubuque with my Grandmother as opposed to the Film Events that I had paid for, but with my Grandmother at that time was where I belonged. Flashforward: when I saw all of the others on the Plane panicking I thought to myself "well I'm not finished writing "The Salt" yet God, but if it's my time I understand, so I'll say a prayer for the rest of these people". The pilot did not say anything to us before the turbulence, during the turbulence, or after the turbulence which was bizarre as that occurred on other flights that I had been on prior (the other pilots always commented on turbulence). But in the end we made it through it and I went on to finish "The Salt" (4) months later in August of (2018). 04/29/2018
